Shehecheyanu
שֶׁהֶחֱיָנוּA blessing of gratitude for first occasions and milestones.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָםשֶׁהֶחֱיָנוּ וְקִיְּמָנוּ וְהִגִּיעָנוּ לַזְּמַן הַזֶּה
Barukh atah Adonai Eloheinu melekh ha'olam Shehecheyanu vekiyemanu vehigi'anu lazman hazeh
Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of the universe, Who has kept us alive, sustained us, and brought us to this season.
Shehecheyanu is said at joyful firsts: the start of a festival, tasting a new seasonal fruit, wearing new clothes, or reaching a milestone. It thanks God for sustaining us to reach this moment.
Variation: Customs differ on exactly which occasions call for it, but the wording is essentially universal.
